Understanding the Difference Between

Health and Wellness

What is Health?

Health is a state of being and refers to how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The state of your physical body and its ability to perform its functions are primary factors when discussing health.

What nutrition you take, the exercise you do, your genetics, and the absence of acute or chronic illness contribute to your overall health.

Furthermore, you can understand health as a scale from illness to full physical and mental health.

Patients in poor health seek treatments by contacting medical doctors within the healthcare system.

Our healthcare systems use a reactive approach focused on “germ theory”, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries.

What is Wellness?

Wellness is a state of living a healthy lifestyle and includes all aspects of being alive.

The principles of the wellness movement highlight holistic and natural methods of prevention and healing.

Wellness is not a state of being that just happens; rather, it is an "active search." Similarly, it involves making conscious decisions and taking calculated measures to improve one's health and happiness.

Wellness includes not just your physical well-being but a variety of supportive aspects—your relationships, your work, your emotional life, and much more.

Models of wellness include dimensions in physical, mental, social, intellectual, environmental, spiritual, and vocational health that should work in harmony.

Why do Health and Wellness Matter?

It is helpful to distinguish between health and wellness to create a quality of life that will last a lifetime. Health is the goal and wellness is the process of achieving health.

Lifestyles that promote health and happiness are at the heart of the wellness concept. Whether you have excellent health or battling a serious disease, a healthy lifestyle is achievable.

As a result, when taken together, health and wellness are powerful tools for living a happy, healthy life. A lifetime of good health is possible with a focus on wellness.

Keeping your health in top shape is essential for a better quality of life. Everything you experience and feel affects your well-being; therefore, maintaining your health is vital.

In turn, your state of health has a profound impact on the way you behave and feel. The cycle is continuous.

As a result, you need to maintain a high level of health to minimize stress and lessen the likelihood of sickness.

Your lifestyle, body, and health will all improve if you focus on balancing each component of wellness.

And in maintaining this balance, you will discover a higher level of health and wellness that you may never have thought possible.
